Arshavin released by Arsenal
Andrey Arshavin has been released by Arsenal.
The 32-year-old signed for the Gunners in 2009 for a club transfer record of £15m from Zenit St Petersburg.
His released comes after a tremulous time at the Gunners, at times the Russian was unplayable – his goal-scoring substitute appearance against Barcelona in the 2011 springs to mind – but too often he looked lost on the pitch.
With Arsene Wenger finally looking to have a competitive side, albeit lacking a consistent central defender and 20-goal a season striker, Arshavin was a dispensable member of the squad.
Arshavin was one of 14 players released by the Gunners. The others were: Samir Bihmoutine, Reice Charles-Cook, Denilson, Craig Eastmond, Sead Hajrovic, Conor Henderson, Jernade Meade, Nigel Oldfield Spence-Neita, Joshua Rees, Philip Roberts, James Shea, Sebastien Squillaci, Sanchez Watt.
