Everything you said describes me as well. Growing up in Texas and I cant get enough of the Arsenal. I have a feeling that next season our trophy drought will come to an end.
I have what has become an unbearable attachment to Arsenal. It’s not unbearable because of the shape of their recent seasons (although that hasn’t helped), it’s unbearable because it makes no sense. It doesn’t track right, the roots seem too shallow to explain its intensity. I’ve barely been to London, and have never seen them play in person. I didn’t grow up loving Arsenal, though I vaguely remember thinking they had the coolest name. I suppose liking a foreign soccer team’s name in the 90s, in Alabama, was a little unusual. But it’s not as though I liked the name that much, or like I’d ever seen a game of theirs on TV.
Nowadays I’m a nervous wreck when I watch their games. I have no self control or sense of proportion. I just so desperately want them to win. I read about them first thing in…
